Please Keep It Comin': My Top 5 Sequel Ideas.

On my last blog, I ranted about remakes, and its congestion in the pipeline of upcoming new film releases. I've yet to complain and comment about movie prequels, which have also been in vogue in the past ten years. Now movie sequels are a norm, even when the first movie is a flop. They will always exist and be made. I actually believe that some movies that are stand alone gems could use a sequel. Here are films five that I would love to see followed up:

5-Bram Stocker's Dracula.

According to a story by Dustin Rowles on Pajabi.com, publishedd in 2008, there is a sequel in the works, which will follow up on the men who killed Dracula and the aftermath of Mina Harker's coping with being a vampire. The story states that there has been no director or actors attached to this project.

4-Dune

Although an "update" is in the works, a sequel would also be appropriate. The continuation of the series by Frank Herbet, focusing on the aftermath of the conclusion of the first Dunes, and expanding the Dunes universe. The first Dune movie by David Lynchh was not well received in its time (even though its David Lynch's most coherent and accessible film). The Dunes universe and its social - historical metaphores are compelling at best.

3-Swordfish

This was probably the best action film of 2001. Released on June 8th, 2001, this film was eerily within the context of the evils that we as Americans would face 93 days later in real life. It is also one of the most anti-formulaic films I have seen. This is probably one of the few movies where the villain achieves his goal, wins and walks off to his own happy ending. A sequel featuring Gabriel Shear (John Travolta's character), getting his piece of the action in the war on terror, would be fitting and if John Travolta declines on doing the sequel, another actor can easily fill in, as the facial surgery pretext was used in Swordfish. We could see Gabriel Shear recruiting a young dude to infiltrate Al-Qaida madrassas in Europe in order to bomb the hell out of them. Shear's villaneous manupulations could pose the moral questions for the young dude serving the plot. Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) could play the young undercover agent working for John Travolta' character.

2-Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Imagine Ferris Bueller 23 years later. He is a burned out NY Investment Banker, whose wife divorced him for working too hard, with two kids who hate him, and on top of that, he's about to be laid off by his new 26 year old boss. Through a series of events he is reunited with former girlfriend Sloan(now divorced) who is on a business trip to NY and his long time pal Cameron who is currently unemployed, although his wife pressures him constantly about job hunting. Ferris calls in sick at work and convinces Sloan and Cameron to go along for the fun "sick" day around NY. This may would be effective as an updated rehash of the original, with new twists about micromanaging employers and work/life balance issues, with our heroes dodging bosses, colleagues, spouses and kids from being seen having fun during the day, when they should be at work. This can bring the message that grown adults need fun too.

1-Blade Runner

What if it is somehow discovered that Deckard is a replicant and now has to run from fellow Blade Runners? What about the story of another blade runner who has to go to the offworld colonies in persuit of someone or some organization that is stealing replicants and re programming them to kill humans? Gerard Butler would be awsome as the Blade Runner, with perhaps a cameo from Harrisson Ford or Rutger Hauer. That would be fun.

Stay Tunned. First Film Reviews are comming this weekend.
